Roller press granulator, which also called roller compactor or extrusion granulator, is a key granulation machine during the compound fertilizer or organic fertilizer production, or powder granulation process.
When it works, it utilizes the compaction force of two relatively rotating rollers to form the powder into granules. Its main part is a pair of rollers. On the surfaces of the two rollers, there are many evenly arranged hemispherical pit molds with the same diameter, and there is a certain gap between them. The two rollers work in opposite directions at the same speed to squeeze the powder that continues to enter the gap of the two rollers into particles.
Compared with the disc granulation machine and rotary drum granulator, its advantages are as follows:
1. The granules have high strength which can reach 12-40N.
2. The size of the granules is uniform, and its appearance is smooth and looks very beautiful.
3. Just need little binding material during the granulation process.
4. Low moisture, no need to dry the granules, which can save more energy cost.
But, during the granulation process, the roller wear a lot. Normally, the rollers need to be replaced regularly after about 1,500 to 2,000 hours, and the granules size have restriction. It is difficult to obtain granules below 3 mm and round granules.
There are many factors that can affect granulation ratio, such as powder size, humidity, binding agent, etc.
The extrusion granulation process requires a large bonding interface between powder. Therefore, the finer the raw powder size, the higher the strength will have.
The binding agent affect the strength of granule most, The binding agent strengthens the binding force between the powders, so as to improve the overall strength of the granules, Many materials can be used as binding agent, such as starch, mineral fillers, resins, bentonite, clay, etc.
